{Ep. 2} MY CURIOSITY GOT ME HOOKED
Here is another episode that continues “How I Met Music.”
Nine years after encountering music, I decided to learn more about it. I started listening to music extensively, and at this point, I realized that music is and has numerous distinct and prominent personalities, which also differ by nationality and culture.
It became known to me for the first time that music has several unique genres and moods like Classical, Rock, Jazz, R&B, Pop, EDM, Afrobeats, Reggae, Hip-hop, and more. As incredible as they all sounded to my teenage ears, I felt each genre regulate my emotions differently. This highlights the aspect of music I mentioned earlier: music has moods. Quite fascinating, yeah!
My curiosity to learn and understand the mystery behind music and all the components that make music so broad grew. I started digging deeper to comprehend not just the applied but also the theoretical aspects of music. How did different genres emerge? How did they all begin? In what era? And what makes them unique?
To satisfy my curiosity, I enrolled in a music course at Peter King College of Music, Badagry, in Lagos State, Nigeria. There, I began to learn the theoretical side of music, and I was amazed at how a collection of symbols, each with its distinct meaning, could come together to create a lovely melody.
Eventually, I gained comprehension with constant study and practice. It was like being in a relationship with music. As I spent time with it, the four bars, five spaces, and all the rudiments of music made more sense. I was so excited about my gradual progress until one day…..
Stay tuned for the upcoming episodes.
